In November the drone ´Lone´ -named after the Esbjerg Port Engineer Lone Arendt Rasmussen- was tested in the harbour, 700 metres from the harbour´s entrance, in cooperation with DanPilot. Utilising drones in support of offshore energy parks´maintenance is a DIOL´s goal.

Launch of the ´Lone´drone in Esbjerg!
At the end of November a special test flight was conducted at the Port of Esbjerg: 75 metres up in the air, the drone ‘Lone’ -named after the Port Director Lone Arendt Rasmussen- hovered over the ARK DANIA, a DFDS RoRo vessel situated 700 metres from the entrance to the harbour. The demo, in close collaboration with DanPilot (pilot service of the Danish state) and its subsidiary VesCo, was part of a large scale scheme where the port aims to use drones to support offshore wind parks´ maintenance and to improve the safety and efficiency of vessel calls. The deployment of drones to assist offshore operations is a key element of the DIOL project.
