On the 12-15th May 2024, the DIOL partner AquaSmart would like to joina trade mission to Italy organised by the Dutch Enterprise Agency (RVO) and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Italy. The event is targeted to organisations specialised on maritime technology and port sustainable development.

During the mission AquaSmart would like to promote the DIOL´s objective to sustainably use (aqua) drones and robots in the inspection of offshore wind farms operations and port support infrastructure, and highlight the North Sea best practices implemented by the project. Participants will have the opportunity to liaise with various sector stakeholders in Genoa, Taranto and Trieste.

The maritime sector has traditionally been important in the Netherlands and Italy. Both countries have a good reputation in shipbuilding, navigation and maritime technology. They are also strong in ports, logistics and innovation. Italy is located on the Mediterranean Sea and connects the Suez Canal and Northern Europe. The Netherlands is well located as a destination and departure port.

Both countries are working on a green, smart and sustainable future for the sector and would like to use their maritime specialism to face challenges like climate change and energy transition.

The programme of the trade mission includes 3 different types of seaports in different Italian regions with different characteristics. Learning from the local challenges of seaports in becoming more safe, resilient, and sustainable will give AquaSmart a variety of insights which it can use as a technology partner in DIOL. On the other hand, the example of DIOL can illustrate the importance of solid seaport infrastructure as a key element for logistics.

AquaSmartXL is committed to make ports more innovative, sustainable and safe and its staff believes that the trade mission can be beneficial.
