Brest Métropole is crafting a new data policy, with one of its key manifestations being the introduction of a novel public service named the "Local Public Data Service".
This new service is based on eleven principles that prioritize ethics. Its main goal is to act as a trusted third party, making it easier for government, businesses, and people to share data with each other. To make this happen, Brest Métropole plans to come up with practical examples, like a special project related to tourism, which will be run by Brest’aim.
What is the challenge?
The City of Brest is already a captivating touristic destination, boasting a distinct maritime identity, a vibrant cultural scene and unspoiled nature. Its ambition is to take a step forward and to assert itself as a key destination for urban tourism, drawing visitors from both France and other European countries.
Brest has many advantages, including numerous sport, leisure and touristic amenities. However, each facility currently manages visitor data separately. To enhance the overall touristic offer and experience. Professionals and visitors alike would greatly benefit from improved data sharing, enabling better insights and services.
How does Data for All help?
In collaboration with the facility manager and event organiser, Brest'aim, the City of Brest will build a shared platform that will enable both private and public entities, including tourism professionals, to exchange and share data seamlessly.
By the end of the project, Brest envisions to have built a large consortium of partners, who will collectively enhance the tourism offerings in Brest, while ensuring ethical handling of visitor data.
Furthermore, all methods, results and developments will be made available as open source, promoting transparency and accessibility.
