On 24 August 2023, the Belgian pilot conducted a dynamic brainstorming session with key stakeholders from South-West Flanders, Belgium. The group, consisting of 12 participants, comprised both mobility experts representing four cities and municipalities within the area, as well as individuals with a background in data analysis.
The pilot project "Traffic <of> Data" in South-West Flanders, Belgium, wants to ensure smooth and safe movement of people and goods using data, while understanding citizens’ data-sharing preferences. Participating partners, including Intercommunale Leiedal, the City of Kortrijk and VIVES University of Applied Sciences are working together to improve and boost the existing platform Leiedal Data as a Service (LDAAS) into a vertical data exchange platform between regional and municipal authorities as well as platforms of higher administrative levels. A first practical use-case related to data-driven traffic control in Kortrijk will be tested and then applied to other municipalities in the region.
On 24 August 2023, Traffic <of> Data partners kicked off with a presentation of the findings derived from a digital survey distributed to around 130 recipients. With a 20% response rate, the survey outcomes formed the foundation for the brainstorming session. The participants deliberated over the alignment of the identified themes with the genuine needs and preferences of the stakeholders. Using the lotus blossom methodology, the discussion progressed across three pivotal subjects: traffic density, cyclists, and parking. By employing the lotus blossom technique, valuable insights were unearthed, shedding light on concerns, deficits, challenges, and opportunities within each thematic domain.
The active involvement of every attendee facilitated an in-depth exploration of each core topic.
In the coming weeks, the Traffic <of> Data partners will further refine and define three pertinent use cases. The team will ensure to provide all attendees with comprehensive feedback on these cases. In this way, the Traffic <of> Data team wants to ensure that what is developed within the Belgian Data for All pilot will contribute to improving mobility in the region.
