The CTB partners recently met again, this time in Sweden, to fine-tune project strategies and activities, and exchange knowledge for a more circular construction sector. We were warmly welcomed at Linnaeus University in beautiful Växjö by Mayor Malin Lauber and René Jaramillo of the Kronoberg Regional Development Board on 19th-20th June.
Circular assessment - a shared understanding
The 2-day programme was packed with learnings over circular building methods. A central theme during this meeting dealt with the ins-and-outs of Circular Assessment. Experts from Linnaeus and Hanze Universities delivered keynote speeches with a view to reaching a shared level of understanding on various concepts in circular economy in relation to the built environment. These enlightening presentations set the stage for some great exchanges and discussions with all delegates.
Masterclass in transition
The participants were also immersed in a Transition Masterclass, specially designed by and for the CTB partners. Linnaeus University shared their expertise on the socio-technical transition theory while NICE showed a fine example of its practical implementation. And there was even time for a session on stakeholder analyses, presented by the Province of Drenthe and always a valuable aspect of project implementation.
The Swedish approach
Of course, there was ample opportunity to hear more about other circular building activities and visit some inspiring local examples of the Swedish approach, introduced by GodaHus and associates, amongst others. In this context, Växjö’s new, iconic municipal building and train station is a must see – and this was also the place to be for the last leg of the CTB Transition Masterclass (with an interactive workshop also facilitated by NICE).
Expanding the knowledge sharing
An unexpected bonus during our CTB stay in Sweden was the ‘melting of meetings and minds’, as we joined up with a delegation from Lesotho, under the Erasmus+ LETSEMA project coordinated by Linnaeus University. This group, also studying potential solutions for comparable sustainability challenges including the energy transition, added an extra dimension to the discussions and expanded the knowledge-sharing experience.
A compendium of inspiration
Just a few months into the project, the CTB partners left the meeting enriched and well-geared towards taking the next steps in achieving the project’s objectives. Many thanks to our colleagues in Växjo for organizing this fantastic programme – a comprehensive compendium of circular building inspiration!
