The Municipality of Vejle is a local public authority in Denmark aiming to achieve CO2-neutrality in 2050 through energy efficiency and waste reduction initiatives. To this end, Vejle's Business Department offers a range of specialized business services, including support, matchmaking, and network facilitation for various industries.
Regulations, reuse, research
Regarding the Circular Trust Building project, the Danish context is that new constructions, extensions and renovations are obligated to obey low-energy building requirements. Sustainable building designs are voluntary and sustainable projects are often DGNB or BREAM certified. There are a few national building projects using CE concepts such as design for disassembly, adaptability and upcycled building materials, e.g. Circle House in Aarhus and Upcycled Studios in Copenhagen.
With new national regulations regarding the reporting of CO2-footprints and sorting waste at construction sites, material utilization etc., contractors are also interested in reusing/recycling building waste. Non-profit organisations and commercial foundations support research and training about circularity. There is also financial support for such building projects and research.
In CTB, Vejle will interact with internal building consultants, stakeholders, clusters, among others.
Education & support
Vejle collaborates with regional education institutes for developing and sharing training materials while working further on local projects for the reuse of construction wood and starting new circular pilots. The Muncipality organizes events for educational institutions, industry actors and business communities to understand the barriers in reaching standard requirements. Transnationally developed training materials will be shared locally - stimulating circular symbiosis in the construction sector, avoiding material waste and supporting the reuse of resources.
In CTB, Veje supports matchmaking and partnerships for Regional Circular Deals and contributes to the Trust framework development. National and European standards and labels will be elaborated with the involvement of the Danish committee for circular standardization.
