Actium is an ambitious housing corporation located in the green heart of the Northern Netherlands, providing 16.000 households in Drenthe with an affordable home. Together with tenants and other stakeholders, Actium endeavours to incorporate circular and sustainable practices by focusing on energy efficiency, renewable energy and increasing circularity, including the use of building materials. Our CTB partners, they stimulate the transition to a circular construction sector, building a strong collaborative culture, and bridging the gap between different public and private partners, professionals and end-users.
Circularity & collaboration
As one of the founders of the ‘Drenthe Woont Circulair’ intiative, Actium collaborates with the Province of Drenthe, NICE andother social housing associations. Within their Plan C team, they are working closely on the development of 20 circular houses with construction firm Dura Vermeer, Bio-inspired architect Mireille Langendijk, INC DesignBureau and Cirkelen (specialists in the reuse of secondary raw materials) on 20 circular houses.
Moreover, Actium aims to make sustainable improvements to 2400 homes and construct approximately 900 new homes by 2029. Sustainability and circularity, though still in the early stages, are high on the agenda and the corporation actively seeks collaboration with municipalities, construction companies, demolition/disassembly firms, and other stakeholders in realizing these goals.
Expanding perspective
With strong competences and skills in terms of end-user participation, stakeholder engagement, and experience with construction and disassembly projects, Actium is a valuable partner for the CTB consortium. They will lead the way in the work packages on Circular Deals and organizing business partners in a shared Trust Framework.
Until now the main focus of Actium has been on local and regional collaboration. However, the housing corporation is increasingly aware of how EU policy affects tenants and stakeholders, so is ambitious about expanding perspective and bringing its vision on collaboration and co-creation to the transnational table.
Trust & skills
Project manager Marcel Westerveen explains their participation in Circular Trust Building: "Within the context of CTB, Actium hopes to jointly develop the necessary mass, as well as the trust and skills required for real engagement with stakeholders. This will, in turn, contribute to the realization of our vision on circularity."
