The Dutch CTB partners are not just collaborating with their international partners, but also work closely together on the project's goals in the region. In January 2025, for instance,  the Hanze University and the Province of Drenthe will initiate a 'Circular Building' course, designed specifically for professionals in Drenthe's construction industry.

Participants will learn the whys and wherefores of circularity in the building sector  - and how to apply directly in their work. Policy makers and designers, builders and housing association employees can all benefit from the free, six-day training, and be inspired by site visits across Drenthe.

New housing

Drenthe is facing a major task: 16,200 new homes must be built through 2030. These homes must last another 100 years, so it is imperative that they are future-proofed. Current homes are also being prepared for the future. That is why the province is committed to circular construction. Delegate Yvonne Turenhout says: "In order to build sustainably, we need knowledge about circular construction. In Drenthe you can already find great examples. With this course we help professionals from the entire construction chain to put the knowledge gained about circular building into practice."

Drenthe provides training in Circular Building

About the course

During the six-day course, participants delve into topics such as circular economy, sustainable construction with biobased materials, reuse of building materials, and circular procurement. In addition to theory lessons, the program includes work visits and guest lectures by experts from the region. The course concludes with an individual final assignment that helps participants integrate the knowledge gained into their own projects. Tutor Peter Kuindersma:“”Circular solutions require looking differently, thinking differently and acting differently. It requires ambitions, clear goals, ownership, cooperation and guts!"

Who can join?

The Circular Building course is for professionals from Drenthe in the construction and infrastructure sector. Think of policy makers, designers, project leaders and consultants of municipalities, architectural firms, construction companies and housing corporations. To participate, a minimum of two years of work experience and college-level thinking is required. An important condition for participation is that the course group reflects the entire Drenthe construction chain, so that participants can optimally cooperate and share knowledge.

The course, in Dutch, begins January 31, 2025 and will take place at various locations in Drenthe. The free course lasts a total of 63 hours, including 42 hours of classroom instruction and 21 hours of self-study.
