The recreational harbour, Sydhavnen placed in the southern part of Vordingborg, has a lack of city life and activities by the waterways and waterfronts.
The aim with Experiment 1 is therefore to obtain new interest and more recreational use of the southern waterfronts of the city. By creating “A reason to go” for the citizens, in collaboration with the ecosystem, we hope to attract more people to the area in the near future, including also tourists and new inhabitants.
Workshop #1: Open mic – Problem identification
The primary stakeholders of the ecosystem were invited to join an "Open Mic Event" at the cultural center “Kulturarkaden” at Sydhavnen – to identify the challenges and possible solutions for the pilot area Sydhavnen and to share their needs and visions with the Pilot Area Board and the innovation coach, BARK Counseling.
28 people attended the event representing a various group of stakeholders, both regarding relation and age. There was different types of residents from both pilot areas, several private land owners and developers, three represents from Vordingborg Harbor Bath Association, the leader of the library, the youth organisation “Ungeforum” and a local politician.
After the Open Mic session in the cultural center, the attendants were invited to join a field-trip in the area – visiting 4 spots to reflect on the themes:
- The arrival
- The everyday life
- The meeting with the water
- The reason to go
Shared interests, challenges and possibilities were identified on site and a set of values for the pilot area Sydhavnen was developed.
Everyone was invited to be a part of the Pilot Area Team who, based on the set of values, will develop a solution for Experiment 1 at the 2nd workshop – Solution Development with AI generated prototypes.
Workshop #2: Solution Development using AI generated prototypes
The Pilot Area Team – 6 members form the ecosystem, two innovation coaches and the project manager attended the workshop, where the aim was to generate ideas based on the set of values developed at the stakeholder meeting the 5th of September and based on the experiment question:
“How can Kulturarkaden be strengthened as the area’s social meeting place through the activation and staging of the water as a driving force for urban life, while preserving the urban character of the harbour?”
The Pilot Area Team came up with the concept of a Social Sauna.
But how will this concept look like? How will the Pilot Area Team come to an agreement of the design, the content and the location of this social meeting place?
By using AI generated images to co-create prototypes of a social sauna, we are in this project testing this innovative approach to develop a common solution for the first Experiment.
But before co-creating prototypes via AI generated images of a social sauna the Pilot Area Team went outside to the waterfront in front of the culture center and make a mini urban life analysis based on Urban Planner Jan Gehl’s 12 quality criteria for urban spaces, to test the idea and qualify the solution.
And then the fun part started - Prototypes were co-created with the help of AI – and different ideas and perspectives regarding the design and content of a Social Sauna were illustrated.
These illustrations are important input for the upcoming process where an external solution provider will be invited to finalize the design and realization of the first experiment- A Social Sauna at Sydhavnen.
