Exciting progress in our Connected River project!
We've reached the halfway mark, and our first pilot areas are nearing the completion of their successful experiments. This means we're now transitioning to the upscaling phase.

Leader for Work Package #3
Accelerate Digital & Smart Solutions
As a leader of this Work Package, Logistics-Initiative Hamburg contributes to outputs on how to scale-up and implement solutions developed within the project. The aim is to accelerate digital & smart solutions towards a broad market uptake in order to increase and guarantee safety, accessibility and liveability for shared waterways & waterfronts.
Up-scaling can mean different things for each pilot, and the journey from initial idea to tested application isn't always straight forward. Following the pilots' identification of their challenges and activation of stakeholders (WP1), and after conducting and validating various experiments (WP2), we are now moving on to the implementation of the best solutions.
This phase involves scaling and accelerating successful approaches, which can take several forms:
- Increased product maturity: Enhancing the functionality, reliability, and user-friendliness of the solution.
- Transfer to other regions or use cases: Adapting and applying the solution in new contexts or geographical areas.
- Monetization: Developing strategies to generate revenue from the solution, ensuring its long-term sustainability.
- Permanent implementation of temporary solutions: Transitioning successful pilot projects into ongoing, integrated operations.
- Expansion of features: Adding new functionalities or capabilities to the solution to address a wider range of needs.
Additionally, we also anticipate potential hurdles that may require further experimentation. However, our project design embraces this iterative approach, continuously refining ideas to deliver valuable and usable solutions. Ultimately, our combined solutions and tools (Flow Forward Approach) can offer significant added value for addressing land-water conflicts in the North Sea Region.
