From the 20th to the 22nd of September, Region Midtjylland (the Danish country coordinator) hosted the first partnership meeting in the EU Interreg Blue Transition project in Denmark. 💧 60 participants from Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, France and Germany took part in the three-day meeting, where the second day was spent on a trip to one of the Danish pilots' locations – Endelave. 🏝. Below the text, you can see a small videoreport about the meeting.
The pressure on our groundwater and soil resources is increasing in line with climate change and our human activities. The pilot on Endelave is intended to mapping and investigating the influence of climate change and agricultural operations on the groundwater resource on the island.
Because Endelave is an island, the conditions are special. Today, the island gets its drinking water from two boreholes in the middle of the island, but due to climate change, the groundwater is threatened by saltwater intrusion from the surrounding seawater. The project must therefore contribute to a strategy that can ensure both clean and sufficient drinking water for the island in the future.
