Lund (Sweden) aims to enhance active mobility, specifically walking, as a sustainable, safe and inclusive mode of transportation in urban spaces. The intervention will take place in real-life environments; the city will develop the concept of Pedestrian Zones and demonstrate their success in promoting more active lifestyles. The overall ambition is to strategically integrate pedestrian considerations into urban planning, improve the city's pedestrian network, and engage the public in the development of the municipality.
Objectives
- Accommodate city growth while maintaining or increasing the share of active mobility
- Revive walking as a form of transportation, both in the streets and in policy
- Develop and operate a pedestrian user experience panel to gather direct information on needs and interests of pedestrians
Physical Intervention
The pilot seeks to find effective spatial methods to evaluate and promote walkability, including defining the urban significance of pedestrian zones.
Soft Intervention
To achieve attitude and behavioural change towards walking, the project will test various interventions to be decided during the pilot. It will also create a walking panel for citizen consultation on walking-related matters.
